Mask all surfaces around the bathtub.

Remove peeling or old paint with chemical stripping compound.

Sand the surface to remove nicks, chips, rust, or rusting around the drain.

Use bondo if required on damaged surfaces.

Cover walls, floors and fixtures surrounding the tub to prevent overspray.

Use a fume ventilation system to carry the overspray outside the home.
